Work
This body of work explores the translation of British Victorian and Thai architecture into woven textile practice. Through primary research in Thailand and the UK, I examined architectural patterns and ornaments and identified shared structural principles across both cultures. Rather than copying motifs, I translated rhythm and proportion into woven samples using hand-dyed silk, cotton, and British wool. The project combines intuitive making with critical reflection on cultural context and appropriation, resulting in a collection of textiles that focus on texture, colour, and slow, research-led craft.
During my year in industry at Dobby and Rose, I worked on a series of briefs centred around luxury British homeware. My favourite focused on the British countryside, for which I visited West Dean Gardens and drew inspiration from the blue hydrangeas. From this research, I developed a woven pattern and produced a 2.5m x 1m throw on a countermarch loom. Crafted entirely from British wool, the piece reflects heritage craftsmanship and a considered approach to contemporary luxury interiors.
